Prof. John Kurakar - Biodata
Prof. John Kurakar is a prominent personality known as a Professor, Writer, Philanthropist, Orator, Scriptwriter, and Organizer. He is renowned as the modern architect of the Kurakaran Valiyaveettil Family Association.
He is the Founding President of several organizations, including the Kerala Kavya Kala Sahithy, the Kerala Palliative Care Initiative, the Ayppalloor Edan Nagar Association, and the Gandhiyan Navashakthi Sangham.
He has written the story and screenplay for over 15 short films, including Unaroo Vegam Nee (Wake Up Fast), Darpanam (The Mirror), Thamogartham (The Black Hole), Good Morning Doctor, Vivaha Kambolam (Marriage Market), Panimudakku (Strike), Cheettu Kottaram (House of Cards), and Chillumeda (Glass Palace).
He has authored 13 books, including Good Morning Doctor and Pinnitta Vazhikal (The Paths Crossed). His major literary works include Vasantham Valare Akale (Spring is Far Away), Ajnatha Theeram Thedi (In Search of an Unknown Shore), Upanayasa Manjari (Collection of Essays), Bhasha Shodhini, Bhasha Deepam, Kerala Christuvarude Charithram (History of Kerala Christians), and Vayojanangalum Palliative Prasthanamum (The Elderly and the Palliative Movement). His autobiography, Good Morning Doctor, has also been published in an English translation.
Prof. Kurakar was the Founding Editor of the College Teachers' Journal. He was an active member of the Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad (KSSP) and served on the editorial board of their publications: Sasthra Keralam, Grama Sasthram, and Sasthragathi. He was also the State Education Convener of the KSSP.
Prof. Kurakar won the Kerala University Award for the best Project Officer for Adult Education, Continuing Education, and Population Education for five consecutive years starting from 1981. He has received over 25 awards, including the URI Global Award, the Gandhibhavan Award, the Desarathnam Award, the Gurupriya Viswasanthi Award, and the Kala Sahithy Award.
His wife is Prof. Moly Kurakar. They have two children: Dr. Manju Kurakar and Manu Kurakar (SBI System Manager). His grandchildren are Jes Mary Kurian, Merin Mary Kurian, and Ayra Mary Kurakar.
