Uri- important notice

UNITED NATIONS INTERFAITH

HARMONY WEEK CELEBRATION

Dear Friends,

We are happy to inform you that the United Nations General Assembly has decided to celebrate February 1-7 as Interfaith Harmony Week, every year. As part of this celebration, we are organizing an all Kerala Open QUIZ Competition for school students on Saturday, 12th February, 2011 at 10 .30 A.M at the KARICKAM INTERNATIONAL PUBLIC SCHOOL, KARICKAM, KOTTARAKKARA.

Please note the following:-

1. QUIZ will be based on General Knowledge and Holy Scriptures of various religions (fifty-fifty)

2. Any number of students can participate from one school

3. Registration fees will be Rs. 10 per student

4. Winners will be awarded cash prizes and certificates (First- Rs 2000; second-Rs.1000 and third Rs. 500). Winning schools will get special Trophies also.

5. There will be a few elimination rounds (written exams) depending on the number of students and ten students will be selected for the final oral round.

6. Participants will have to report at 10 A.M with letters of introduction from respective Headmaster/ Principal

All are requested to organize various programmes in your respective institutions to make the UN Interfaith Harmony Week a big success. You are also invited to participate in the special Interfaith Harmony Meet at Cosmic Community Centre, Karickam at 2 P.M on Sunday, 6th February, 2011. Prof. Ashraf A Kadakkal (University of Kerala) will be the key-note speaker. Looking forward to your support and guidance,

NOTICE

The United Nations has decided to celebrate February 1-7,2011 as Interfaith Harmony week. This will be regular feature every year.
URI is making arrangements to celebrate it all over the world with a series of programs. All CCS are requested to make this event a big success.
URI central committee will be organizing a special Inter-faith get together at the URI office Karickom on Sunday 6th February at 2 p.m. Prof Dr Ashraf A.Kadakkal (Kariavattom Campus, Trivandrum) will be the chief guest.
All CC members are requested to attend with family and friends. Bus fare will be provided to participants from distant CCS

SECOND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON INTERRELIGIOUS INTERCULTURAL DIALOGUE

SECOND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON INTERRELIGIOUS INTERCULTURAL DIALOGUE

The second International Conference on Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue at the Dhaka University was inaugurated today by the Education Minister of Bangladesh Mr. Nurul Islam Nahid. Hon. Minister for Religious affairs Adv. Shajahan Mia was also present. Vice Chancellor Areffin Siddique was on the chair. Agencies like UNESCO and the Ministry of Education are uniting with our CC here to make this program a great success. About 150 delegates including 40 foreign participants are attending. More than thirty papers will be presented during different sessions in three days. It is really heartening to see that great Universities are taking interfaith activities very seriously, as reflected in the presence of numerous scholars from various foreign Universities. Prof. Kazi Nurul Islam (Department Head and a Temple Universiity product) and his team deserve much praise in making the whole program a big national event.

Dr Abraham Karickom share the room with Dr. Leonard Swidler of Temple University, Philadelphia, a versatile genius and long-time champion of interfaith cause. Three of our TPA trainees are also attending this conference.

URI SEEK BAN ON ENDOSULFAN
URI Environment wing urged to the Union government to ban on Endosulfan in Nation wide. Prof. John Kurakar presented a paper on" Endosulfan" more than hundred members of URI pledging their support. Prof G. Jacob presided over the function. Dr Ashraf Kadackal inaugurated the URI Interfaith Youth camp at Fathima public school at Punalur on 27th November,2010. Prof P.K Varghese Dr Kottuckal Sreedhar, Prof. Geroge Mathew Thiruvalla, Dr Samuel Nellikade, Mr Binu Cheriyan, Mr Alexander Jacob, Mr K.K Joy, Mr Nazarudeen were spoke on the occasion.

Group discussion began at 2 pm. The four group leaders presented their report on the public meeting at 2. 30p.m. The URI members presented some cultural programmes like group song, Role plays, and Recitation on the cultural section at 3 pm. The annual general body elected new office bearers of association. The Valedictory function held at at 3.3o pm.

Dharma Rajya Sandesh Yathra started on May 23 rd,2010 at Kasarghod. The Peace journey led by Acharya Guru Sachidanda Bharathi, President of Dharma Rajya Mission. Aim of the Yathra is Alchol free family and Democracy in Pachayathi Raja.As many as seventeen associations co-operated with dharma Raj Mission.

Swami Sachdanda Bharathi travelled widely. Swami’s aim is a Second Freedom Struggle fo a hungle-free,Caste-free and Correcption free India.

URI, Kerala Kavya Kala Sahithy gave him grand reception at Kottarakara Karickom International Public School on June 3rd at 3.45 pm. Dr Abraham Karickom welcommed . Mrs Sreeja introduced all team members. Prof. John Kurakar, Mr Kunjachan Paruthiyara, Mr G. Balakrishnan Nair, Mr Thomas P. Malakhy,Mr Thomas George, MrAlexander Jacob, Mrs Jessy Benny, Mr Aby shan Araham, Mrs Anee Thomas,Ann Mary Abraham, Mr Thankachan and other URI and Kala Sahithy members actively participated the reception function.

Mr Kunjachan Paruthiyara expressed thanks to the participants and team members of the Sandesh Yathra. URI Arranged food and stay at Kurakar Executive Tourist Home,Kottarakara.

URI South India- SriLanka region conducted peace pilgrimage on 25th May,2010, as the part of the 10th Anniversary celebrations.The team of 52 members visited Santhigiri,pothencodu,Thiruvananthapuram,Sivagiri Ashram,Varrkala and Maha kavi Kumaranasan Memorial Centre, Thonnackal.
An Interfaith meeting was conducted at Santhigiri Ashramam at 10.30 am. Swami Nava Nanma, Director,Santhigiri Ashramam inaugurated the spiritual meeting. Prof. John Kurakar presided over the function. Mr G.Balakrishnan Nair expressed thanks to swami’s and other board members of Ashramam. After the lunch URI team visited Thonnackal Mahakavi Kumaranasan Memorial Centre. A cultural programme was arranged there. The members actively participated the group discussions and the cultural programmes. Team reached Varkala Sivagiri at 3.30 pm. We visited various centres in the sivagiri madom, then our team visited the varkala beach and other important places there.
Santhigiri Ashramam is located amongst lush green hilly surroundings at Pothencodu aqbout21 kms north of Thiruvananthapuram. It was founded by Navajyothisree Karunakara Guru about 40 years ago. Its origin was in a simple thatched hut in about half acre of land in a secondary forest area.
The Ashram is well known in Kerala, India and abroad. It has become a centre for solace and remedy for diseases, illness and other human sufferings. It has become a place for obtaining anthentic spiritual knowledge and guidence and a divine center of pilgrimage.
Santhigiri Ashram, more than an institution located in one place, is a parampara, a spiritual movement of people following ideaals which guru has taught. There are communities of devotees all over the kerala, India and in many places of the world. They have established branches of the Ashram in their places. 52 members participated in the peace pilgrimage

LEADERSHIP CAMP FOR PEACE BUILDING
AT CHRITHU JYOTHIS ANIMATION CENTRE, KOTTYAM ON MAY 21st & 22nd MAY,2010

The united Religions Initiative (URI) is a fast growing global organisation, promoting enduring,





daily interfaith co-operation, ending religiously motivated violence and creating cultures of peace, justice and healing for the Earth and all living beings.
As the part of the 10th anniversary celebrations, URI South India- Sri Lanka Region conducted a Leadership Camp on “ Peace Building” at Christu Jyothis Animation Centre Kottiyam on 21st and 22nd May, 2010.
The yoth camp started at 10.15 am with Interreligious prayers. Dr Abraham Karickom, Asian Executive Director inaugurated the camp. Prof. John Kurakar, president, Kerala Kavya Kala Sahithy C.C presided. Prof G. Jacob, president interfaith centre, kottarakara welcommed the deligates. Self introduction and appreciation inquiry were very attractive.
Mr Joseph Chacko, the educationalist and philosopher led the first session on “ personality development”. After lunch the second session of the day was started. Dr Pramila has discussed with the participants about the Indian culture and Hinduisam. After the evening tea the cultural and arts programmes started at 6 pm. The deligates presented various arts programmes such as Drama, group song, single song, dance, Recitation, mimicssss and Kaviyarangu.
On May 22nd2010, the second day again started with meditation and morning walk and assembled in the Animation hall and have started the day with interfaith prayer. Dr Abraham Karickom presented the paper on “ Conflict Analysis. The deligates interaction with Mr Abraham Karickom. Prof George Mathew, Marthoma College, Thiruvalla led the 2nd session of the second day on “ Conflict and Peace” The members actively participated the session.
The group discussion started at 11.30 pm. Delegates from all co-operation circles in Kerala attended the discussion. The Arts group presented a Drama on “ Conflict”
Finally the leaders Training Camp came to an end with validitory function. Prof. John Kurakar has thanked the Asian leader Dr Abraham Karickom and the organizers Prof. G. Jacob, Dr Samuel Nellikad, Mr Rajan Cosmic and other Cc leders for their contributions. The Asian leader distributed cash awards to Ishan Ismail, best actores and Jish G. Panicker( Best Memory). 54 members participated on the two day camp.
